Expanding Access to Whole-Building Energy Data

The EPA is looking for input from building owners, building managers, and building consultants on where they need utility data most and why by June 7th, 2024.

While access to utility data is growing, 90% of utilities do not currently offer data access to non-account holding building owners and third-party consultants. This need is highest among multifamily housing, mixed-use, office space, warehouses and certain configurations of retail, which can be the most difficult data use cases for utilities.

There are many reasons building owners, managers, and consultants need this data that go far beyond benchmarking compliance to include green loans, SEC requirements, potential investor requirements, carbon accounting, etc. Building decarbonization at scale starts with utility data access regardless of the building type and management relationship. What we don’t talk about is the lift required by utilities to make this data access possible. Calico will have a lot more to say about this very soon 😉

In the meantime, if you are a building owner, manager, or a building consultant, please take a few minutes to fill out this form from the EPA.
